True Master
Derrick “True Master” Harris is a rapper, DJ, and producer best known for his work with the Wu-Tang Clan. Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., True Master realized at a very early age that he had a calling in the music industry. Being initially influenced by his older cousin, Baron, and from hip hop cassette tapes that circulated around NYC which featured the likes of the ‘Cold Crush Brothers and Kool Moe D.
True Master made his debut in 1995 when he produced Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Brooklyn Zoo.” A pillar of ODB’s catalog, it has gone on to become an unofficial anthem to Brooklyn. The song has been sampled 71 times and is cemented into hip hop history. Since that release, he has produced extensively for the Wu-Tang Clan and its members’ solo projects, as well as for artists like Busta Rhymes.
If you aren’t familiar with the name True Master, you are certainly familiar with his music and distinctive sound. In addition to his credits on records like Wu-Tang Forever and Ghostface Killah’s Ironman, he has two releases of his own: Meta-Historical (2010) with KRS-One and Divine Intervention (2021) with Killah Priest.
