R. Prophet

Kenneth “R. Prophet” Anthony has been an important figure in the music industry for decades. The rapper first rose to prominence as a founding member of the southern rap group, Nappy Roots, alongside fellow members Skinny DeVille, B. Stille, Ron Clutch, Big V, and Fish Scales.

Nappy Roots’ major label debut under Atlantic, Watermelon, Chicken, & Grits, was released in 2002 and featured hit singles “Headz Up”, “Awnaw”, and “Po’ Folks”. The album reached #24 on the Billboard 200, #3 on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop chart, and was certified platinum. That same year, Nappy Roots was nominated for Favorite New Artist and Favorite Band, Duo or Group at the American Music Awards, and “Po’ Folks” was awarded a BMI Publishing Award. The group’s third and final album with Atlantic Records, Wooden Leather, was released in 2003 and featured production credits from Kanye West, David Banner, and Lil Jon. In 2004, R. Prophet and Nappy Roots wrote three songs for the soundtrack to the Coen Brothers’ film, Ladykillers

After parting ways with Nappy Roots, R. Prophet began to pursue a solo career starting with the release of his first single, “Run Tell The DJ To Crank It”, produced by former Cash Money producer, Mannie Fresh. As a solo artist, R. Prophet has performed alongside the likes of Nelly, Ludacris, T.I., Young Buck, and Yung Joc.

In 2020, R. Prophet released his autobiography, Grams To Grammys: How Ryan Prophet went from Selling Grams to being Nominated for the Grammys.
